Go Outside Festival

Last year, I was invited by the folks at Orvis to participate in the Go Outside Festival at their tent. The event, which started in 2011, is aimed at representing all of the outdoor recreation activities available in the region. It has taken off, to say the least. I had a table set up showing kids and adults how to tie some of the basic starter patterns. I remember one kid in particular that had been tying for a while. He wanted to tie something dry. I smiled and handed him a #18 hook. He tied a BWO like a champ.

The look on his face is why I love doing things like this with kids. That’s why we had so much fun at theĀ Botetourt County Annual Fishing Carnival. So it was a no-brainer when they asked me if I’d like to be there again this year. If you’re able to, come on down and be sure to visit me and Matt. Orvis and Dead Drift Flies will have two casting pools set up for the adults and kids. There will be casting competitions as well.
