Tying the Zebra Midge
The Zebra Midge is a great fly to use as a dropper, especially in tailwaters. Midges hatch year round, making them one of the few species that can be used in the winter as well. The most common sizes to be equiped with should be in the #18-24 range in any color that works well. Great additions I include are always using an Ice Dub collar and applying Clear Cure Goo for added shine and durability.
Materials Needed:
Hook: Daiichi D1130 or equivalent, #18-24 (Orvis Emerger shown)
Thread: 8/0 thread, color of choice (Purple shown)
Head: Bead color of your choice (Nickel shown)
Body: 8/0 thread, color of choice (Purple shown)
Rib: X-SM Silver Ultra Wire
Flash: Ice Dub (Purple shown)
Here’s a video tutorial on how to tie it:

Incredible work and Godly witness, Josh! Keep up the great effort and teach that little girl to fish! Give my best to your bride.
Keep “leading from the front”, for Christ!

Great tie. You are amazing. I use $.59 fingernail clippers for cutting wire and lead. Can cut very close. I think nail clippers work better than scissors plus you can’t beat the price.
